Everybody wants to know what the popping sound is during chiropractic adjustments. Simply put, chiropractors adjust synovial joints and synovial joints is an area where two bones almost touch. It’s surrounded by a joint capsule that’s filled with fluid called synovial fluid. When we do adjustments at Discover Health and Wellness Lone Tree, we simply stretch the joint capsule, open up an area that’s restricted, and restore a range of motion. When we stretch in the area that is restricted you hear that popping sound, but it’s not from the bones. Nothing is breaking! The bones don’t even touch each other. It’s actually from gas in the synovial fluid being released. It doesn’t hurt and it actually lets us know that the adjustment is taking place.
What happens is when we get this joint to where we call the paraphysiologic end space, or to the very end of its end range, and we put that pressure that directive force in there we are actually mobilizing it or releasing the gas from this joint space. It is just a release of gas from that joint space, just like when you pop your knuckles, same kind of thing.
A lot of people are very stressed out and very worried about this sound. It actually keeps people from going to see a chiropractor! So just to try to alleviate some of that fear and some of that anxiety, rest assured, nothing is breaking. Chiropractors are trained to assess your body and your structure and eliminate that possibility altogether.
Chiropractic care has some very profound positive effects on your body. A chiropractic adjustment does several things all at once:
- It restores range of motion we’re range of motion was restricted
- It restores normal nerve functions so that there’s no longer nerve irritation
- It relaxes the muscles right adjacent to that vertebrae so that you have profound muscle relaxation
Chiropractic adjustments even causes endorphins to be released right at the level of the vertebrae. By doing that it reduces pain though in one fell swoop. So it corrects the problem that was causing the issue and reduced all of the symptoms associated with it at the same time. Simply put, chiropractic adjustments and that popping sound is a very elegant form of healing! So don’t let that popping sound deter you from getting your chiropractic adjustment. Contact Discover Health and Wellness Lone Tree today and we’ll get you on the road to recovery!
